Yes, depending on the individual cycle shelter, it is possible to create a bespoke option to suit your specific requirements.
For our steel cycle shelters, the steel comes as standard in a galvanised finish however you have the option to specify in a powder coated finish in a wide range of RAL colours.
Several cycle shelters also come with the option for a roof or cladding, for example the Hennessy range, Carlos Canopy, and the Torres Shelter. You have the option to specify with PET roofing.
If you require further customisations, please feel free to contact our team here at Street Furniture Direct, either by telephone on 01625 879442 or email enquiries@streetfurnituredirect.co.uk
Our freestanding cycle shelters come with the option to surface mount or root fix to the floor, depending on the cycle shelter option.
The Carlos Canopy is a wall mounted shelter where you fix the bracket to a suitable wall structure.
All necessary fittings and fixings are included.
Constructed with durable materials, our shelters can withstand various weather conditions, giving you peace of mind knowing your client will benefit from having a cycle shelter that will stand the test of time.
Also, our cycle shelters undergo rigorous testing and quality control, giving further confidence in your product selection.
Yes, the Carlos Canopy is an excellent option for outdoor areas where floor space is restricted, as it is a wall mounted cycle shelter. It is a popular choice among sub-contractors working on projects such as school outdoor classrooms or play areas, waiting areas, courtyard covers, entrance canopies and walkways.
Also, the Timber Cycle Store and Cycle Locker are also good options for sub-contractors working on projects with limited space in their surroundings, due to their compact sizes.
The Timber Cycle Store measures 1825mm in length by 825mm in width, and the Cycle Locker is only slightly bigger measuring 1900mm length by 855mm width. This makes them a good option as they take up less floor space compared with other cycle shelters.
Our range of cycle shelters are designed to be low-maintenance due to their durable steel constructions. The Timber Cycle Store is an exception as it is manufactured from timber, however it is coated to ensure long term maintenance is minimal for end users.
We recommend regular visual inspections and occasional cleaning with mild soap and water are generally sufficient to keep the cycle shelter in good condition.
Our range of cycle shelters arrive flat packed, ensuring shipping costs are kept to a minimum and keeping logistical emissions to a minimum also.

Bicycle shelters are an essential requirement on many commercial, residential and educational projects, due to the increase in the popularity of cycling over recent years.
Not only are businesses and educational establishments accommodating the rise in the number of cyclists, but they are meeting Active Travel targets and sustainability objectives set by Net Zero policies.
Cycle shelters should now be a standard feature of outdoor environments.
Incorporating a cycle shelter into large commercial or public buildings brings added benefits for cycle users and building owners, including additional shelter from the elements, added security for user’s bicycles, and generally encouraging a greater use of cycles which in turns promotes a healthier population. Street Furniture Direct are pleased to offer a wide range of cycle shelters to sub-contractors.
What is a bicycle shelter?
A bicycle shelter is a covered structure designed to store bikes securely and give extra protection from the weather. Unlike a basic bike rack, which only provides a stand to secure a bicycle, a shelter adds a canopy or enclosed structure that offers additional protection.
Cycle shelters are commonly specified on projects such as schools, universities, business parks, transport facilities, and public sector schemes where cycling is encouraged as part of daily travel.

Benefits of installing a bicycle shelter
- Increased weather protection: bikes are shielded from rain and adverse conditions.
- Better security: covered and lockable options reduce the risk of theft and vandalism.
- Encourages cycling: supports Active Travel and Net Zero targets
- Improves organisation: shelters prevent clutter from loose bikes around entrances and walkways.
- Enhances site appearance: modern designs create a professional and tidy environment.
- Cost-effective and durable: galvanised and powder-coated steel ensures long-term performance with minimal maintenance.
Key considerations when specifying cycle shelters
When specifying a bicycle shelter, the first factor to assess is capacity. A small residential project may only require a few spaces, while larger sites such as universities, transport hubs, or business parks often need modular or double-decker shelters to cope with higher demand.
Available space on site is also a key consideration, as compact or restricted areas may call for space-saving or modular systems that maximise storage without taking up too much footprint.
Security is another important aspect; open-sided shelters are suitable for short-stay or low-risk areas, while enclosed or lockable shelters provide greater protection for long-stay parking or high-value bikes.
Material choice plays an important role in both durability and maintenance. Galvanised steel frames with powder-coated finishes are the most reliable option, providing strong resistance to corrosion and weathering while reducing future maintenance requirements.
Compliance is another critical factor. Many local authorities now require cycle shelters that meet planning conditions, Active Travel standards, and wider sustainability targets.
Sub-contractors can save time and avoid redesigns by working with suppliers that provide technical drawings and compliance support.
Finally, installation should not be overlooked. Surface-mounted shelters offer straightforward installation with simple bolt fixings, allowing sub-contractors to save labour time and keep programmes on track.
