Manchester Cast Iron Bollard FAQs

Cast Iron Bollards are heavy and durable making them a secure bollard that will last a long time. Cast Iron is stronger than plastic or timber. Cast Iron is a traditional material for bollards.
The Manchester Cast Iron Bollard will rust over time. It is best to remove the rust immediately with a wire brush and paint over the exposed area to maintain the condition and the longevity of the bollard.
The Manchester Cast Iron Bollard has a guaranteed warranty for 1 year however it should last for a significantly longer period depending on its location, how often it is cleaned and whether it has been physically damaged or vandalised.
The Removable Manchester Cast Iron Bollard must be installed into the ground. We recommend digging a hole to a depth of 400mm, fill the first 100mm with Type 1 MOT Crushed Concrete (approved for use by the Ministry of Transport). Then fill the rest with concrete and install the bollard case into the concrete to ensure it cannot be removed. Leave to set.
The Root Fixed Manchester Cast Iron Bollard is the standard 1300mm length. We recommend digging a hole to a depth of 400mm, fill the first 100mm with Type 1 MOT Crushed Concrete (approved for use by the Ministry of Transport). Then fill the rest with concrete and install the bollard with the spigots down into the concrete to ensure it cannot be removed. Leave to set.

Raw Cast Iron is the simplest finish for cast iron products, it has a dark grey colour however it will degrade and discolour over a period of time.

Primed Cast Iron is sprayed with a primer which offers additional resistance from degrading, particularly from water.

Finished Cast Iron is hand painted in a gloss finish for further protection. Finished Cast Iron is recommended for bollards as it increases the lifespan.

The Manchester Cast Iron Bollard is a very durable bollard however it will need to be replaced if significant damage has occurred after a car incident, to ensure it is adequately performing. If you require a more secure bollard that will handle impact better, contact us to discuss reinforced bollards.
Coloured Hazard Banding increases visibility, particularly at night, in low light or where there is no street lighting. Hazard Banding is only advised if the bollard is being installed in a location that will assist with directing traffic or reduce the chances of vehicular collisions – especially cars reversing on car parks. As standard we sell the red, white, or yellow hazard banding in a single band. There is no significance in the choice of colours.
There are many locations where the Manchester Cast Iron Bollard can be installed to provide protection to both people and buildings. It is a popular choice for heritage sites and parks due to its traditional material and modern design. It is also ideal for town centres, high streets, and even coastal fronts.
